What size for a QR code on a menu?

A QR code that is too small makes your customers lean in, zoom, sometimes give up. The right size mostly depends on one thing: the distance between the phone and the code.

The simple rule: a tenth of the distance

Count about 1 cm per side for every 10 cm of reading distance. On a table, where people scan from 20 or 30 cm, a code of 2 to 3 cm per side is enough. On a poster read from 2 m, aim for 20 cm.

The details that matter on a menu

  • Leave a light margin around the code, at least the width of four modules.
  • Keep a strong contrast: dark modules on a light background.
  • Avoid folds and glossy paper that reflects light.

The mistake to avoid

Printing a code that points to a file or a page you will soon change. With a dynamic code, you change the destination without reprinting the menu. Both plans are detailed on the Pricing page.
